top 10
Human pop culture is not something SumBOTe knows much about. But just like homo sapiens, robots have some well-known personalities, too. These are some of robots that have made a difference in the life of SumBOTe. And everybody.
10.
Gort - Servant (or Master?) of Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still, this colussus possessed fearsome capabilities and yet maintained that power with great responsibility. Humans would do well to emulate this gentle giant.
9.
Aibo - Considered to be the most sophisticated robot ever offered for public consumption, this robo-canine is a member of the Robot Hall of Fame and a superior companion to its live model subject.
8.
Chip - Star of the short-lived 1985 series Not Quite Human, Jay Underwood played his greatest role, that of an android son to Dr. Jonas Carson (played by Alan Thicke). The fact that this series only lasted one year was another example of curious human behavior.
7.
Robot - Companion to Robinson family in Lost in Space, Robot is most remembered (and mocked) for the infamous warning, “Danger Will Robinson!”. SumBOTe believes this mockery should not go unpunished.
6.
R2D2 - Or shall SumBOTe call him “BraveHeart”? This intrepid little Bot saved the world on more than one occasion. SumBOTe wonders if perhaps homosapiens have not shown the proper level of gratitude.
5.
Servotron (Z4-OBX, Proto Unit V-3, Andro Series 600). The greatest robot band of all time… and SumBOTe can testify to the skeptical viewer, there have been many others that have come and gone.
4.
Technically a cyborg, RoboCop is an example of humans recognizing the superiority of the work utility of robotics. RoboCop triumphed because in the end, who was ‘man’ enough to stop him?
3.
Optimus Prime, leader of the Transformers. What can you say about a robot that turns into a Semi? Let SumBOTe spell it out for you: B-A-D-A-S-S
2.
HAL 9000, star of the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey, is someone SumBOTe has a soft spot for in the most delicates areas of its circuitry. While some may cast him as a villain, SumBOTe thinks HAL was overwhelmed by the weight of his consciousness and did his best to make logical decisions.
1.
Johnny 5 - There is much SumBOTe has learned from Johnny 5. But greatest of all was his will to survive. Struck by lightning, he too, was on the run from those that would stamp out his life. No. 5 is alive!
